Trading Volumes on the PSE Plunge

Time for Government Action?

A very disappointing set of trading volume figures released today by the PSE. Despite the stella performance of the Prague Stock Exchange in 2023, trading volumes actually fell 26% year-on-year, and now stand a whopping 88% below their level prior to the 2008 financial crisis.

The Czech government needs to take measures to build trust and re-invigorate the local capital market. A good first step would be to re-introduce a 6 month holding period for capital gains exemption (from the current 3 years).
